Everyone who likes doing dishes, raise your hand!
Okay, so no one actually likes to do dishes, but they are necessary. We all have dirty dishes at one time or another. Well if you can crochet, even just a little bit, do I have the pattern for you! These hand crocheted dishcloths are squishy soft and can be put through the scrubby test! They are made from 100% cotton, don’t require anymore effort then your normal dishcloths, and look sensational! Hey, if we have to wash dishes, why not treat yourself to a little luxury?
This pattern is super simple, and a good go-to for an evening in front of the tv after a stressful day. No complex counting, nothing really to keep track off, and therefore perfect for ignoring while Mr. Shue’s giving oogly eyes to someone on the tv, and starting up again while Rachel goes into one of her self-righteous monologues.
The possibilities are endless. I prefer a no-fuss straight edge, with no frills or fancies. But if you do, simply end this pattern off with an edging of shells!
So, Here you go.
Use 100% cotton. It’s nice, and natural, and tough. I used Bernat Cotton.
Gauge is not important. I am using just a slightly larger hook than is called for. I find this makes your cloths a little less rigid. The yarn called for a 4.5mm, I am using a 5.5mm.
This pattern can be worked up in a few different stitches. You can single crochet for a tighter cloth, Half Double Crochet for a middle of the road cloth, or Double Crochet for a looser type cloth. I have written the instructions, and shown pictures of the cloths done in HDC because they are my preference. But please try other stitches and decide yourself the one you like best!
Chain 25 stitches. Half Double Crochet (or Single, or Double crochet) into the second chain from hook, and across. * Ch 2. HDC Across. Rep from * until towel becomes a square. Usually between 20 – 30 rows, depending on your gauge and what stitch you’ve used. A good way to figure out if you’re done is to fold the cloth corner to corner. If it makes a perfect triangle, you’re done!
Mend in your ends, and go wash those dishes!! (Or, hang it over the faucet and admire your handiwork with a cup of tea.)

Simply loved the way you tell us how we know we are done crocheting this lovely dishcloth !!! Thanks for such a simple, but great, pattern.
